Engine Inlet to Firewall Clamp

I have seen on many aircraft ( at least 20+ ) where the engine inlet to firewall clamp is installed incorrectly. This can cause corrosion damage to the lower part of the engine inlet housing. I have heard from engine shops that this area is the reason for replacement of the nose case, which is very expensive.

Incorrect installation of the engine to forward firewall “ V “ band clamp is a major reason for corrosion on the lower lip of the engine nose case. As mentioned before, the nose case is quite expensive to replace.

The proper installation of the clamp is with the large gap ( opening ) in the clamp at the 6 o’clock position, allowing draining of trapped water. With the large gap at the bottom the quick release latch should be at the 3 o’clock position.

Engine shops have had to reject nose cases just for this reason. I have seen this clamp installed in all positions. The installation instructions are in the maintenance manual.
