LubriBor- Fuel Lubricity Additive
NOTE FROM UH1OPS While we usually stick to maintenance articles on UH1OPS MAINTENANCE BLOGs, we support this product and after seeing the results, feel anyone operating a T53 engine should look into LubriBor, which we feel will save you money in the long run on components like fuel pumps and fuel controls.

Because of low-sulfur requirements of today’s fuels, most engine OEMs have service bulletins or information letters detailing the need for a lubricity improver. This is a very economical way to reduce wear in fuel pumps and controls leading to lower overhaul costs in the future by reducing the number of parts needed during overhaul inspection. If you're not familiar with lubricity improvers, this excerpt from ASTM Specification D1655 Section X1.10 explains it well: "Aircraft/engine fuel system components and fuel control units rely on the fuel to lubricate their sliding parts...The chemical and physical properties of jet fuel cause it to be a relatively poor lubricating material under high temperature and high load conditions. Severe hydroprocessing removes trace components resulting in fuels that tend to have lower lubricity than straight-run or wet-treated fuels. Corrosion inhibitor/lubricity improver additives are routinely used to improve the lubricity of military fuels and may be used in civil fuels." The ASTM specification goes on to state that problems from low lubricity fuels range from "reductions in pump flow to unexpected mechanical failure leading to in-flight engine shutdown".
LubriBor has been approved for use in aviation fuels and is used in military aviation turbine fuel both as a corrosion inhibitor and lubricity improver. If you have questions about how a lubricity improver can help you, let me know – I’d be happy to discuss the benefits with you.
