Attached is the Rotorcraft Monthly Accident Briefing for February 2026 (fifth month of FY26).
(Covers Part 27, Part 29, and Restricted Category rotorcraft accidents to U.S. registered aircraft. Does not include gyrocopters or experimental aircraft.)

Monthly Summary
February Totals: 6 accidents, 1 fatal accident, 2 fatalities
- The one fatal accident and two fatalities occurred when a Law Enforcement helicopter (Public Use) crashed on a night flight in support of activity involving an active shooter.
- The 6 accidents during the month tied for fourth lowest for any February in the last 44 Fiscal Years.
- Three industry sectors experienced accidents during the month: Personal/Private – 3, Helicopter Air Ambulance – 2, Law Enforcement – 1.
FY26 Summary
FY26 Totals: 27 accidents, 8 fatal accidents, 15 fatalities
Accidents (includes both fatal & non-fatal accidents):
- The FY26 estimated accident rate for Oct-Feb was 2.35 per 100K hours (21% lower than the same period in FY25 and 29% lower than the 5-year average for the same period).
- Distribution of accidents by Operating Part so far in FY26:
-- Part 91 – 70%, Part 133 – 4%, Part 135 – 19%, Part 137 – 4%. Remaining accidents: 4% operated as Public Use aircraft.
- The 27 accidents in FY26 have occurred in eight different industry sectors. The top three percentages to date were: 1) Personal/Private: 37%, 2) Helicopter Air Ambulance: 22%, 3) Aerial Observation: 11%
Fatal Accidents:
- The FY26 estimated fatal accident rate for Oct-Feb was 0.7 per 100K hours (4% lower than the same period in FY25 and 11% higher than the 5-year average for the same period).
- Distribution of fatal accidents by Operating Part so far in FY26:
-- Part 91 – 63%, Part 133 – 0%, Part 135 – 25%, Part 137 – 0%. Remaining fatal accidents: 13% operated as Public Use aircraft.
- The 8 fatal accidents in FY26 have occurred in the following four industry sectors: 1) Personal/Private: 50%, 2) Helicopter Air Ambulance: 25%, 3) (tie) Utilities Patrol/Construction: 13%, 3) (tie) Law Enforcement: 13%
Fatalities:
- The FY26 estimated occupant fatality rate for Oct-Feb was 1.31 per 100K hours (20% lower than the same period in FY25 and 1% higher than the 5-year average for the same period).
- Through 5 months, 30% of the rotorcraft accidents in FY26 had a fatality (long term historical percentage is 17-18%).
- Distribution of fatalities by Operating Part so far for FY26:
-- Part 91 – 73%, Part 133 – 0%, Part 135 – 13%, Part 137 – 0%. Remaining fatalities: 13% operated as Public Use aircraft.
